Post Conference Workshop #1: How to Evaluate the Evidence in Evidence Based Literature

Michael Glick, DMD; Alonso Carrasco Labra, DDS, MSc, PhD

Evidence Based has become both a buzzword topic and a concern for those professionals who understand how evidence is created. Students of the literature have always noticed that almost anything being done with patients will have “literature” associated that shows the benefits of what is being done. They also know that there is almost always “literature” that shows that same therapy is of little or no use.
This workshop is designed to change the participants view of “evidence” and improve the clinician’s ability to read the literature with the skeptical eye of a researcher, improving the ability of the evidence to improve patient care for their patients.
Drs. Glick and Labra will provide examples of well-done research and subsequent literature as well as published research that might not be consistent with the conclusions in the related article. They will lead the group in exercises designed to help participants take this discretion home to their reading.
If you experienced Dr. Glick at the 2018 meeting, you KNOW you are in for an entertaining and illuminating day. DO NOT MISS THIS.

ADA CERP is a service of the American Dental Association to assist dental professionals in identifying quality providers of continuing dental education. ADA CERP does not approve or endorse individual courses or instructors, nor does it imply acceptance of credit hours by boards of dentistry. The AES-Occlusion, TMD, Comprehensive Oral Care designates this activity for 17.6 continuing education credits. 10.6 credits for the main conference with an additional 7 hours for post conference workshop 1 or 4 hours for post conference 2. Current Term of Recognition: January 2017-December 2020.
